It looks as if Google+ is joining the ranks of Vine and Friendster.
This week, Google announced that at the end of August 2019, Google+ will be permanently shut down.
This comes as a response on their part to ensure the security of user data and as a result of low user participation with the platform.
Google+ rolled out in June of 2011 to much fanfare with the platform gaining 25 million users in the first month alone.
Over the years however, Google+ has seen major drops in user engagement.
Google cited in its most recent statement that, "90 percent of Google+ user sessions are less than five seconds."
With competing social networks constantly rolling out exciting new features such as Stories and camera filters, it's easy to see how Google+ has fallen behind the times in providing a compelling platform in which users spend their time.
What does this mean for Easy Media clients?
While this change affects the social network Google+, it will not directly impact our management of Google My Business listings which display business information, ratings and reviews on Google products like Search and Maps.
Customers with existing Google+ pages managed by Easy Media will continue to receive support throughout the life of the platform.
We are committed to providing service coverage on the platforms that are most impactful for our clients, which is why we rolled out service to Instagram in 2016.
With 80% of users following at least one brand on the platform, Instagram has grown to be an invaluable tool for connecting with renters by showing off coveted amenities and fun activities held at apartment communities.
Now, and in the future, we will continue to update our product lineup to ensure it meets the growing needs of our clients across the ever-shifting social media landscape.
In the meantime, please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions or concerns!
